Playoff Overtime Information

2024-2025 Playoff Overtime Procedures

Overtime Procedures -These are the same for ALL 10U - 18U Games

  • TEAMS WILL SWITCH ENDS IN OVERTIME. For Youth Games teams will defend their 2nd period goal in the first overtime and for Midget games teams will defend the opposite end of the ice than they did in regulation for the first overtime period. Teams will switch ends every overtime period thereafter.
  • In all overtime situations, the first team that scores, wins the contest.

 All Quarterfinal and Semifinal Games

  • There will be a (1) minute intermission following regulation.
  • The first overtime period will be (15) minutes in length and will be played (4 x 4).
  • All subsequent overtimes will be (15) minutes in length and will be played (4 x 4).
  • Following the second overtime there will be an ice cut.
  • There will be an ice cut after every (3) overtime periods thereafter.

 All Championship Games

  • There will be a (1) minute intermission following regulation.
  • The first overtime period will be (15) minutes in length and will be played (5 x 5).
  • All subsequent overtimes will be (15) minutes in length and will be played (4 x 4).
  • Following the second overtime there will be an ice cut.
  • There will be an ice cut after every (3) overtime periods thereafter.

 All 3rd Place, 5th Place, and 7th Place Games

  • There will be no intermission following regulation or following the first overtime and teams should line up for the opening faceoff immediately.
  • There will be a (5) minute overtime period played at (4 x 4).
  • There will be a (5) minute overtime period played at (3 x 3).
  • There will be a (3) person shootout.
  • The home team will choose whether they shoot or defend first.
  • If there is no winner after the (3) person shootout, there will be a sudden death shootout.
  • All players on a team must shoot before a shooter can be repeated and shoot again.
  • If one team has 12 skaters dressed and the other team has 15 skaters dressed, a player on the team with 15 skaters can repeat and shoot again after 12 skaters have shot.
  • Any player who has time left on a penalty when overtime is completed is ineligible to shoot in the shootout.

 

13U & 15U Diamond Overtime

  • For the first two games of both 13U & 15U Diamond series, the overtime will follow the regular season overtime procedure
  • (1) minute intermission following regulation
  • There will be a (5) minute overtime period played at (4 x 4).
  • There will be a (5) minute overtime period played at (3 x 3).
  • Following the 3 x 3 overtime, the game will end in a tie
  • For the mini game in both 13U & 15U Diamond series, the overtime procedure will follow the Quarterfinal and Semifinal overtime procedure
  • There will be a (1) minute intermission following regulation.
  • The first overtime period will be (15) minutes in length and will be played (4 x 4).
  • All subsequent overtimes will be (15) minutes in length and will be played (4 x 4).
  • Following the second overtime there will be an ice cut.
  • There will be an ice cut after every (3) overtime periods thereafter.
